Karen has been a volunteer with Samaritans for 16 years, previously holding positions of Day Leader and Deputy Director.

She has also been involved in Training both at Branch level and Regionally and is still a member of the Irish Regional Training Team, so the Branch is in very safe, skilled hands for the next three years.

The Director of the Branch is responsible for all aspects of the delivery of the service.

Karen said: “My main objectives are raising awareness of Samaritans in our catchment area, that being Armagh, Banbridge, Dungannon and Craigavon.

“Increasing the number of volunteers which will in turn enable us to deliver the 24/7 365 days a year our callers need.

“The only qualification you need to be a Samaritan is to care about people and be a good listener. All we ask is that you can give us 4 hours a week either through the day or at night. The training and support network has never been better to prepare a new volunteer to take that first call. I am aware there are many other volunteering opportunities available to people but none so rewarding as Samaritans. This is also an exciting time to be Director as next year our Branch will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary- quite an achievement for any organisation and is a testament to everyone who as spent time with us over the years. I joined the Craigavon Branch of Samaritans 16 years ago and it has been so incredibly rewarding but also great fun.”
