No repeat flooding at Greenisland underpass after downpours

Commenting after heavy rain this week, East Antrim Alliance MLA, Stewart Dickson said: “Greenisland Station underpass is a vital north-south link for pedestrians in the village, and the flooding had a major detrimental impact on commuters and schoolchildren.

“It was unacceptable that people should have to start or end their working days by wading through water, or even dicing with death by walking an alternative route on the road, or potentially even worse by crossing the railway line.”

The Alliance representative met with Translink’s senior engineer last week to discuss the problem in detail.

He added: “Officials assured me that the issue has been dealt with, and work has been done to ensure efficient drainage, preventing water from collecting and flooding the underpass.

“There have been a number of days of heavy rain since the work was undertaken, and I am happy to see that the underpass has not been flooded, allowing the people of Greenisland to make full use of this link once again.”
