Orange Order launches a new charity lapel badge

A new lapel badge, commemorating the memory of Brethren killed during ‘the Troubles’ has been commissioned by the Orange Order.

The badge was commissioned by the Grand Orange Lodge, which convened a new committee to produce and promote the latest addition to the Order’s range of badges, the Grand Orange Lodge Murdered Brethren Memorial Committee. The badge, which is made of enamelled metal and features 16 poppies and a purple start on an orange coloured background, was launched in Londonderry last week by the City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge Grand Master, James Hetherington.

Commending the badge to members of the Orange Order, Bro Hethrington said he encouraged everyone to purchase the new limited edition lapel badge.

The badges are retailing at a cost of £3 each and can be bought directly from Bro Colin Campbell, who has been appointed as the Murdered Brethren Memorial Committee Representative. To reserve a badge telephone 07800849169 or email [email protected].

Also taking part in the launch were Stephen Burns, Deputy City Grand Secretary and George Hunter City Grand Lecturer and proceeds from the sale of the badge will be used to help tell the story of murdered brethren in the new Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland Interpretive Centre as well as to make a donation to the Royal British Legion.
