Fundraising events to help Tyrone man seriously injured in US crash

Bricklayer Paddy McStravog from Donaghmore was a passenger in a car which crashed into a tree in Philadephia on December 30.

The driver was tragically killed in the collision and another passenger seriously injured.

Thirty-six-year-old Paddy, an active member of the GAA and Philadephia Irish community, is expected to be in hospital and out of work for the forseeable future.

A member of the Kevin Barry Gaelic Club since 2019, he is also going to need financial help for an extensive rehabilitation programme that he will undergo in order to get on his feet.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by a friend, Matt Lawson.

"Paddy is still in ICU and waiting on more surgery on his left leg. His right leg has been closed up now waiting on reports next week on it’s progress. He also has several pins in both legs." said Matt. "He will be out of his feet for months."

Matt said they are starting a virtual walkathon to raise funds on Monday. You can find out more information and register via email [email protected]

Donaghmore GAA posted on its Facebook page: "We’ve all heard the terrible news of the accident Paddy and his friends suffered in Philly.

"Paddy is a Donaghmore native with lots of close ties to the club. Please help his friends and family provide the necessary support he’ll need in the coming weeks and months.

"Maith thú to his Adopted American friends and family for their generous and supportive response. Good luck and best wishes to Paddy from everyone in Donaghmore."
