£10.5m boost for south Antrim businesses welcomed

South Antrim MP Paul Girvan has welcomed figures from the Department for the Economy that 1,050 small businesses across South Antrim have been successful in their application for the Covid-19 £10,000 Small Businesses Support Grant.

Commenting on the figures the DUP representative said: “Small businesses across South Antrim are the backbone of our local economy and provide vital employment to the local community.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has placed unimaginable pressures on our local small business sector and it was vital that the Executive stepped in to provide this lifeline.

“The quick actions of my colleague Diane Dodds to put this grant scheme in place has undoubtedly saved many businesses and countless jobs across South Antrim.”

Mr Girvan added: “With almost £10.5 million injected into the South Antrim, this grant scheme has been a lifeline for small businesses throughout South Antrim.

“I am pleased to have assisted many of these companies in the application process and I know how important this grant has been to them.

“In the coming weeks I will continue my engagement with small businesses and the Department for the Economy to provide as much support as possible during these difficult times.”
