Mr Berry said, “Like anyone who stands for election, it is disappointing when the results don’t come your way but I believe that I gave a credible performance at the polls considering that it was a short and fast campaign, and I am glad I gave people a choice in this election.

“It is always difficult to take on the election machinery and resources of the larger political parties at a time when so much fear was being peddled about who could become First Minister, but I am pleased to have achieved one of the best performances of any Independent candidate standing in the Northern Ireland Assembly elections, and I hope that by so doing I helped to maximise the combined unionist vote in the area.

“It is always exciting to get out amongst the community and I want to thank all the people who took the time to speak with me and to encourage me these past number of weeks, and especially those who took the time to cast their vote in my favour at the ballot
box.

“I recognise and appreciate the support given to me by friends and family and by my election team, and I shall continue to work at ground level as a local Councillor for the betterment of the whole community.”

Mr Berry concluded: “I would like to commend the two elected Unionist representatives William Irwin and Danny Kennedy on their success and look forward to working with them at a local level on issues that affect our community.”
