Road and rail infrastructure is a priority: Devenney

DUP MLA Maurice Devenney has welcomed the announcement that the second phase of the Londonderry Coleraine rail link is on track to begin in the Spring.

The rail line was included in the ‘Top 10’ favourite rail journeys in the world by actor and presenter Michael Palin and the ongoing work is part of the extensive refurbishment of the line, the first phase of which was completed during the UK City of Culture Year.

Commending the decision Mr Devenney said in his past few months as MLA for Foyle DUP, the rail line was one of the issues that continued to raise its head.

“The discussion is all about infrastructure, the roads and rail line as well. At last here we have ticked one of the boxes in getting the second phase of the railway line, running between Londonderry and Coleraine, upgraded,” he said.

“I welcome unequivocally this announcement. The improvement of the rail line is one part of the jigsaw in creating the right environment to bring jobs and investment into the city,” he said.

“On the back of that, we have to work now to hear positive news on the plans for the A6 and the A5. All three of those projects are priorities and deserve priority status. If all three were taken on and completed it would link in with the expansion of Magee and that is something I would greatly support,” he said.
