Postman faces drugs charges

Appearing in the dock of Lisburn Magistrates’ Court, Warren Jones, Joshua McLeavy, and Dennis Caughey confirmed that they understood the charges against them and that they were not objecting to the Preliminary Enquiry proceeding

Jones, 44 and from Sandhill Walk in Manchester, McLeavy, 22 and from the Alders Road also in Manchester and Belfast postman Caughey, 45 and from the Upper Dunmurry Lane, are jointly charged with attempting to supply class A cocaine between May 21 and 23, last year.

Jones and Caughey are also charged on two offences in April last year while Caughey faces a further allegation that he attempted to possess cocaine with intent to supply on October 4 last year.

Jones is charged with another count of attempting to supply the class A drug in October and on November 18, he had £2,870 of criminal property in cash.

During an earlier court appearance, it was alleged that Jones is a member of an English based ‘organised crime gang’ who had posted almost six kilos of cocaine to Northern Ireland.

When charged last February, Detective Constable McDonald told the court that Jones had been involved in posting five packages containing 5.8 kgs of cocaine.

He claimed that Caughey allegedly facilitated the delivery of the packages.

Jones and Caughey were remanded into custody and McLeavy released on £500 bail.

The judge ordered the men to appear at Craigavon Crown Court for arraignment on September 4.
