Princesses for the day

OVER 240 Rainbow Girl guides become princesses for a day on Saturday as they grasped an "I was there moment" celebrating 100 years of Girlguiding in the UK.

St John’s church hall, decorated for a royal party, was a scene fit for a fairy tale as young ladies from across County Armagh guiding danced, twirled and whirled in princess costumes.

There was plenty to keep the Rainbows busy in their two hours as royal maidens, including making tiaras; after all, you can’t be a real princess without one.

There were also treats such as nail painting and a chocolate fountain, all things any princess should experience.

Each girl was sent home with her own birthday cupcake and a party bag along with a photograph taken in front of castle gates, a lasting memory of the day they were a Rainbow princess.

Tracey Braziel, County Commissioner said: “I think it is fabulous that we have nearly all our Rainbows here today from across the county. It gives them all an opportunity to not only be a princess for the day but to see how big the guiding family is and how special this year is.

"It has been a very busy and loud but fun packed couple of hours and it’s worth it to see the smiles going home. Hopefully it will be something they will remember as they continue through guiding.”

Special thanks to St John’s church, Lurgan for allowing the Rainbows to take over for the day. Also, thanks is extended to all those who helped with the preparations.
