£10m invested in local schools

THE Department of Education has invested over £10million pounds on schools in Londonderry that have had development proposals approved since 2006.

Almost 3,000 pupils in the city are currently benefiting from the investment across the city. Lisneal College received 5,290,000 from the Department so Learning Support Classes could be established within Foundation Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 from January 2008.

Lisnagelvin Primary School received 4,245,000 for the same support to be established within Foundation Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 from the same date.

And Londonderry Model Primary School availed of 118,000 so an Autistic Spectrum Disorder Unit could be established within Foundation Key Stage from the same time.

In Carnhill St Brigid's College, received 276,000 to facilitate the closure of an Irish Medium Unit from September 2008, whilst the associated St Brigid's Primary and Nursery School received 132,000 to establishment an Autistic Spectrum Disorder Unit with effect from September 2007.

The capital investment was revealed by the Minister of Education in response to a question tabled at the Stormont Assembly.
