The reconstruction of the footways and resurfacing of the carriageway of a 550 metre stretch of Hospital Road from Garden Street to the main access to the Mid-Ulster Hospital is expected to take around five weeks to complete.

Whilst the Department’s resource budget for activities such as routine maintenance is severely reduced, funding for this scheme is from the capital budget for major projects and new road schemes which is less affected by the current pressures.

Danny Kennedy said: “The scheme will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway on this important access road.”

Two-way traffic flow will be maintained during the improvement work, however, to help ensure the safety of road users and contractors it will be necessary to close the road on Tuesday 7 October at 6am until Friday 10 October at 8pm to facilitate the final resurfacing.

During the closure diversions will be in place via Garden Street, Rainey Street and Tobermore Road. All diversions will be well sign posted. Access to businesses and services will be maintained.

The scheduled dates are subject to favourable weather conditions and TransportNI will advise the public of any revisions.
