£135m fund for WELB this year

THE Department of Education (DE) will spend £135m funding the Western Education and Library Board (WELB) this financial year 2011/12.

Education Minister John O’Dowd outlined the degree of expenditure in response to an Assembly Question from UUP leader Tom Elliott MLA.

He advised £74,166,000 would be invested in the block grant whilst a further £60,824,000 was earmarked for the western area. The total funding will be £134,990,000.

He advised: “There are still some funds in respect of earmarked initiatives to be allocated in the current year, with an approximate value of £20 million.”
