Resurfacing work at Leckagh Drive off Meadowbank Road and at Ashgrove Park off Aughrim Road - is expected to take four weeks depending on weather conditions.

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy said: “Both schemes will greatly improve the strength and road surface quality in these large housing development areas in Magherafelt town.

“Whilst the Department’s resource budget for activities such as routine maintenance is severely reduced, funding for this scheme is from the capital budget for major projects and new road schemes which is less affected by the current pressures.”

Magherafelt DUP councillor Paul McLean has welcomed the commencement of the work.

He said: “These works are very much overdue and, although it will be disruptive for a period, when completed it will enhance the quality of the lives of those who live in these areas.”

To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors, traffic management will be in operation, however, it is not expected that road closures will be required, with most of the work only requiring lane closures. Parking may be restricted, but pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
