Preparatory work on the project, announced by Transport Minister Danny Kennedy, began last Monday (May 19). The works extend from the entrance of Holy Trinity Primary to Westland Road - a distance of around 660m.

The Minister said the scheme will improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway and footways.

Road closures will be required to facilitate the resurfacing of the carriageway.

Welcoming the scheme, Cookstown Ulster Unionist Cllr Trevor Wilson said this much needed work will be welcomed by all road users.

“There will be some disruptions while this work is being carried out but I have been assured that this will be kept to a minimum,” he added.
