£290,000 resurfacing scheme

MLA McQuillan said that he had been in contact with Transport Minister Danny Kennedy on three seprate occasions about the road, which he described as ‘a gateway to the Causweay Coast from mid Ulster.

Last week, Minister Kennedy announced that work would start on July 28 costing in the region of £290,000.

“The scheme will benefit road users for many years to come by improving the running quality of the road surface by using high quality durable materials,” said Minister Kennedy.

MLA McQuillan went on: “ I know there will be some disruption whilst the work is carried out, however I don’t think people will mind if the road is being brough back up to standard again. I have had numerous compliants about damage to cars on the stretch of road. ”

The Garvagh man went on to say that he is pushing the Transport Minister to include Lower Main Street in Garvagh, which is also classed as the A29, in the scheme.

Drivers should note that traffic controls will be in operation during the normal working day however a three day road closure will be necessary to replace a road culvert from Tuesday 29 July to Thursday 31 July.

During this period traffic will be diverted via B66 Craigmore Road and B70 Boleran Road. Traffic control will be in operation from 1 August with a further road closure for 4 days in September to facilitate surfacing.

The scheme is expected to be completed by Friday 19 September.
