PSCP members praise police on drugs figures

At the meeting figures for drug seizures and arrests in the Coleraine area were released by the PSNI.

The figures show that there has been a slight increase in drugs seizure from 2011/12 to 2012/13. From 169 in 2011/12 to 176 in 2012/13.

Commenting on the figures, MLA Adrian McQuillan, who is a member of the partnership praised the PSNI on the figures and pointed out that the North Coast area was a ‘difficult’ one to police.

“It is good to see that the rates of drugs seizures are increasing.

“We all know that the North Coast is a difficult area to police with the influx of visitors over the summer months.”

Independent member, Roger McCallum added: “Recent events in Peru have served to promote the drugs issue to the forefront of our thinking once again. I would compliment the police from the Coleraine area on both their reactive drug seizures and arrests, and, along with CRUN (Coleraine Rural and Urban Network), their proactive, educational approach towards the issue of all aspects of the problem.

“There is a responsibility on all of the partners in the PCSP, along with wider society, and in particular parents, to accept the challenge of playing our part in the solution to the drugs issue. “
