Shore Road trees protected

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Planning Section has served a provisional tree preservation order on lands at 401 Shore Road and Lismara Court in Newtownabbey.

At a meeting in Mossley Mill on September 21, members of the council’s planning committee heard that the provisional tree preservation order had been served to preserve the trees on the sites by prohibiting the cutting down, lopping, uprooting, wilful damage or wilful destruction of the trees.

A council report said that the six-month order would allow council officers to present a full report regarding confirmation of a full tree preservation order at the site. The motion to note the report was proposed by cllr David Arthurs and seconded by cllr Brian Duffin. It passed unanimously.

At the meeting, members also gave their approval for officers to write to DOE Minister Mark H Durkan to seek a meeting to discuss the planning policy position for solar farms in Northern Ireland.
