Sign language classes at local charity

LOCAL charity Hands That Talk will be offering a range of Sign Language Courses in September at their centre in Dungiven.

The charity, based at 116 Main Street, will be offering ‘Level 1 British Sign Language’ classes on Thursday, September 13 from 4-6pm and again at 7-9pm on the same evening. The duration is 32 weeks and the fee for the entire course will be £105, with a concessionary fee of £35.

A ‘Level 2 British Sign Language’ class will take place on Tuesday, September 11 from 6-8pm, and will be running over the course of the next two years (70 weeks). The fee is £150 per adult, with a concessionary fee of £40. The fee costs do not include examination fees (£30 at present for each module).

Further courses will include a ‘Level 1 Deaf Awareness and Communication Tactics’ and a ‘Basic BSL Sign Language Course’, although dates have yet to be secured.

There is also the possibility of an NVQ Level 3 in British Sign Language as well as NVQ Level 6 in British Sign Language depending on the number of people interested.

Hands That Talk will also be delivering a range of other courses for Deaf and hard of hearing people.
