Six months prison for theft

A 26-year-old man was sentenced to a total of six months in prison last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

Christopher Anthony Hughes, Ardowen, Craigavon, appeared in court by way of videolink from Maghaberry prison.

For the theft of electrical goods valued at £380 from Boots on March 5 this year he was sentenced to six months in prison.

A concurrent four month term was imposed for possession of a Stanley knife on March 4.

He was also given a one month concurrent term on each of two charges of possession of a class B drug, Methylethcathione and Methylone, on April 21 last year.

The court heard that on April 21 last year he was stopped by police in Victoria Street, Lurgan, and a search uncovered two small bags of white powder.

On March 4 this year Hughes was stopped in Church Place, Lurgan, and a search revealed a Stanley knife in his possession.

He said it was for cutting wires and speakers at a friend’s house.

Hughes was identified on CCTV at Boots in Rushmere on March 5 along with another male attempting to remove security tags from electrical goods.

District Judge, Mr Alan White, said that given the defendant’s record custody was inevitable.
