Slapped his partner twice on face

After accusing his partner of cheating on him a 35-year-old man slapped her twice on the face, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Wednesday.

Viktoras Kuiskinas, Selshion Parade, Portadown, admitted common assault on a female on January 15 this year. He also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and not having insurance at Corcrain Drive on the same date.

The court heard that at 8.30am the injured party returned to her home and her partner accused her of cheating.

He grabbed her and pushed her onto a sofa before striking her with an open palm of the left side of her face and then on the right side.

When the defendant went outside the injured party drove to her sister’s house and as both were returning they saw Kiuskinas driving on Corcrain Drive.

A solicitor representing the defendant said the case had been listed as a contest on May 5 and when two charges were withdrawn he pleaded to the remaining matters.

He said the aggravating feature in the domestic matter was the open handed slaps and added there was no history of domestic violence or assaults on his record.

The solicitor said that in the probation report Kuiskinas had expressed remorse for his actions and knew they were unacceptable.

He added that his client drove to the sister’s address while still trying to salvage the relationship but knew he should not have got behind the wheel.

For all matters Kuiskinas was sentenced to 150 hours community service. A two year disqualification was imposed for driving while disqualified and a concurrent one year term for not having insurance.
