The proposals, for a combination of new 30mph limits, came following a review by Roads Service of the existing speed limits in the area.

SDLP MLA for Mid Ulster, Patsy McGlone welcomed the news saying: “I welcome the proposed new speed limits at Ballylifford, Derrychrin and Drumullan. The SDLP have been lobbying Road Service for the introduction of traffic calming measures in these areas for some time.

Local SDLP Councillor Christine McFlynn added, “Residents have been concerned about the speed of traffic through these areas and its impact on road safety, especially given the proximity to local schools.”

“The new 30mph speed limits are particularly welcome, as this will allow Roads Service to introduce other traffic calming measures in areas where they were previously prevented from doing so by law.”

Local Sinn Fein Councillor Gavin Bell also welcomed the news: “After many constructive correspondence between Colm McElholm, Roads Service Traffic Management Section and myself, in putting across the concerns and anxieties of local road users and constituents, I’m very pleased with the news received very recently in relation to this matter.I welcome any change that may take place in these locations due to the ever increasing volume of traffic on our roads and the importance of ensuring children commute to and from school safely.”
