Sporting project kicks off in Carrick

Mid and East Antrim Agewell Partnership (MEAAP) has kicked off a programme encouraging men in Carrickfergus to get active in the run-up to Christmas.

The partnership is running a range of sports including football, circuit training, basketball and volleyball.

The programme is targeted towards men over 50 and is designed to get them off the sidelines and back into sports and exercise.

Figures have shown that one in five men in Northern Ireland will die from heart disease before the age of 75.

Studies also prove physical activity could reduce premature death by 20-30 percent and chronic disease by 50 percent.

The project will include inter-generational tournaments and three inter-area tournaments with the teams in Ballymena, Larne and Carrickfergus.

The Carrickfergus sessions began on October 26 and will run for 8 weeks at Amphitheatre Wellness Centre.
