Students plan future with employers’ help

A total of 120 Downshire Year 12 pupils had the opportunity to improve their interview skills by working with employer advisors from a variety of local companies.

Many employers subsequently sent emails to school congratulating those involved in the interview skills day.

Mrs Tregaskis-Sloan, from The Beeches Professional and Therapeutic Services Ltd, commented: “This year’s interview skills day was a truly outstanding experience. It was evident that as always with Downshire events, a tremendous amount of time, work and preparation had been undertaken by the staff team and all should be commended for their commitment, enthusiasm and genuine engagement with the pupils.”

She went on to say that she had worked with a group of “well mannered, focussed and talented” young people who spoke highly of their many positive experiences and “it was clear that Downshire School is providing a truly holistic approach to education where life experiences and academia meld seamlessly to nurture good, solid citizens”.

The exercise included reviewing application forms, participating in workshops and conducting mock interviews. By meeting prospective employers, students, who are about to embark on post-16 choices, also had the chance to ask questions and pick up useful tips for the future.

Downshire careers department thanked Pat Jamison from Sentinus who led the event and employers for giving of their time and advice to help and support the young people.
