Supermarket takes full ownership of Magherafelt Post Office with extended opening hours

Kelly’s SPAR, Union Road, has taken full ownership of the local Post Office branch providing extended opening hours and further job opportunities.

After six years of serving the local community on Union Road, the Post Office has been taken over by Kelly’s, and will now offer the Magherafelt community shoppers a unique combination Post Office and financial services alongside SPAR great value products all under one roof, all day long!

The Post Office has been completely refurbished to offer extended opening hours and a more modern environment. The branch has dedicated a Post Office counter at the retail checkouts, offering Post Office products and services alongside retail transactions during the extended hours from 7am-10.30pm, seven days a week. This will give shoppers over 100 hours a week to access their local Post Office, making life a little easier for those who need to shop before or after work.

Store Owners and new Post Office owners, Pearce and Shaun Kelly, commented on the store addition: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome this community hub into our store.

“We are pleased to say all staff from the original Post Office will remain employed within the store and our retail staff will also have the opportunity to increase their hours if they so choose to, which will accommodate the extended Post Office opening hours. The future is certainly looking bright as we hope to open up further employment opportunities within this store.

“The Post Office is part of everyday life in communities across Northern Ireland and as an important public service and the cornerstone of our local community it was vital for us that the surrounding area did not lose this valuable resource.

We will continue to invest back into the community where possible, we remain very proud of our Cancer Fund for Children Partnership and to date between all our stores we have raised over £40,000 to support the very worthy services of the charity organisation.

Sean Henry, Good Relations Officer, Mid Ulster District Council, who officiated at the opening of the refurbished Magherafelt Post Office, congratulated all involved with this new project.

Kelly’s, SPAR houses a range of hot-food, coffee, Paypoint services alongside an extensive fresh offering including their very own chef’s prepared meal solutions.

The Post Office will also offer all current existing services including Travel Services such as Bureau de Change, Travel Insurance and Travel Money Cards, perfect for those heading away this summer.
