Teen told to 'catch himself on'

A TEENAGER has been told to "catch himself on" after assaulting his mother and step-father.

Craigavon Court heard how Mark Duffy (18) of Meadowbrook left bruising on the front and back of his step-father's head after repeatedly punching him.

The court was told Duffy had assaulted his step-father on August 9 after he had intervened in an argument between the defendant and his mother.

Duffy's mother was left with redness on her arms as a consequence of the domestic dispute. She told police her son was high on drink and drugs at the time of the incident.

On August 13 Duffy was arrested and cautioned. He admitted to assault on his step-father and accepted that his mother was injured through his actions.

His solicitor said he had been out of control on drink and drugs. He added that Duffy's mother and step-father had been happy to provide a bail address and take him back into the family home.

The court was told the defendant is currently addressing his alcohol and drug abuse.

District Judge Mervyn Bates said: "You really are going to have to catch yourself on. You just don't seem to care."

Duffy was given a combination order of 12 months probation and 100 hours community service for the two counts of assault.
