Thank you for the music Mr. John Hall

Mr Hall was a well-known and respected teacher having started his teaching career in Cullybackey in 1981. Throughout his 35 years at the school, Mr Hall influenced many young people and helped them to pursue their love of music. Mr Hall formed and maintained positive relationships with his colleagues, past and present, and with the countless pupils who walked through the music room doors.

Under his leadership the Music department was always buzzing with preparations for school services and concerts to community visits and events, competitions and festivals to instrumental examinations, from performances on the local radio to garden parties at Hillsborough Castle.

Mr Hall put the then Cullybackey High School on the map with 25 exceptional productions which all started in 1983 with ‘Smike’. For many years, the High School was renowned for these spectacles, with many pupils openly stating the reason they chose Cullybackey High was in the hope of one day performing in a musical show. ‘Da’ Hall was a teacher who could see the potential in every student; he encouraged and nurtured talent often previously unnoticed. Mr Hall believed in his pupils, giving many the confidence to follow their dreams.

His musical expertise and his love of fun will be sorely missed, both in his role as a teacher and as a colleague and friend.
