There is ‘no place’ for hate crimes in Glenarm

On Thursday, March 22, a petrol bomb was thrown into a communal parking area in the Mark Street area. The petrol bomb disintegrated and caused no injuries or damage.

Then, some time between 9pm on Wednesday, March 28 and 7.30am the following day, a van was damaged in the same area, where corrosive liquid was poured over part of the vehicle.

Police are treating the incidents as hate crimes, stating that the residents are foreign nationals.

Coast Road councillor Maureen Morrow has hit out at those responsible and said there was “no place for this sort of activity” in the village.

“The residents of Glenarm have been working hard to improve the image of the village and encourage more people to visit.

“Incidents like this are not what local people want to see and I want to strongly condemn whoever was behind this,” the Ulster Unionist representative added.
