Tributes paid after sudden death of young Tyrone footballer

Kevin O’Gorman from Calendon is believed to have taken his own life, at a student house in the south Belfast area on Tuesday.

He was a talented member of Aghaloo O’Neills, and had recently taken part in a trial for the Tyrone Under-21 team.

At his funeral on Friday, Fr John McGoldrick said he was a ‘family orientated guy’

The priest added: “It is important to remember the importance of talking, talking to your family, your friends, counsellors.”

Kevin was a former pupil of St Patrick’s Academy, Dungannon.

Aghaloo club chairman John O’Neill said: “Kevy was a great lad, bubbly and lively.

“The way he was on the football field, full of action and full of life, was exactly how he approached life off it as well.

“This is just something which we are all struggling to get our heads around.”

Mr O’Neill added: “It’s so tragic for the family, for his mother, his two sisters and his brother. We’re a close knit, small club. Everyone is very close, and everyone has been affected by this.

“It is our duty as a club to do all we can to ensure that the players have the support they need, someone to talk to.

“These are just dark, dark days for our club and all those associated with it.”
