Twenty-one year clear record ends

A woman’s 21 year clear driving record ended last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court when she was convicted of driving without insurance.

Deborah McKenna (52), Hillcrest Mews, Craigavon, was fined £200 for the offence, ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy and given six points.

The court heard she was stopped in Legahory Court and police checks revealed there was no insurance in place.

The defendant said she had the relevant documentation at home but it transpired the insurance had been cancelled prior to the date she was stopped.

A barrister representing McKenna said her insurance company had sent her a letter requesting additional information but she did not see that letter.

She added that it was an oversight on the part of the defendant who had been driving for 21 years with no previous convictions.
