Twilight celebrations at Carrick’s Oakfield Glen

Fairy-lights will light the way, while Sylvr and Teal1, from Premiere Circus, will entertain and keep a watchful eye over woodland visitors.

The progarmme includes toasting marshmallows around the camfire, live fiddle music and magical journeys with renowned storyteller Raquel McKee, from from Rainbow Storytelling and Dramatics. Little ones will also have the chance to make their own lanterns, from recycled materials.

Michelle McCaughtry, the Woodland Trust’s people engagement officer, said: “Oakfield Glen is the most charming old woodland. It’s well visited by daytime and now, in the run-up to Halloween, we’re inviting families to wrap up warm for a special autumnal evening, brimming with activities.

“We’re keen to encourage children to grow up with a real love of nature. And we’re using a guaranteed recipe to help us on the way: with autumn, woodland and fairy tales included in the mix.”

Oakfield Glen is a treasure trove. A Victorian stone bridge and old ice house offer a glimpse of days gone by.

And the wood is also home to some recent inhabitants. The mischievous Púca (or fairy-like creatures) will be hiding in the treetops throughout the woodland - these crafty creations are sculptures, made from steel and with input from local primary schools.
