Nathan Carter backs Merryn campaign

Chart-topping Country Irish phenomenon Nathan Carter has weighed in behind the fundraising campaign for brave cancer sufferer Merryn Lacy (aged five) who recently underwent a further course of chemotherapy to try and eradicate residual traces of disease form her bone marrow.

Already 2,000 tickets have been sold for what promises to be a memorable ‘Country Comes to City’ open air concert at City of Derry Rugby Club on Saturday (June 14).

Organisers City of Derry and Institute FC have been in touch with the family of five year old Merryn to support her fight against Neuroblastoma, which is a rare form of childhood cancer.

The star of the show will without doubt be Country Irish star, Mr Carter, whose version of ‘Wagon Wheels’ topped the Irish Charts.

Both he and special guest Lee Mathews said they were pleased to help in any way possible and City of Derry Rugby Club PRO Moss Dineen said over 2,000 tickets have already been sold.

Tickets are still available from www.watersidetheatre.com and City of Derry Rugby Club.

Moss met Merryn and her mum Jenny (née Robinson) - originally from Kilfennan - at a charity cycle from the rugby club to Dunfanaghy, which was organised by Jenny’s aunt and uncle Natalie and Graham Cummings.

Following this Mr Dineen decided to speak to Institute FC about using the concert as a fundraising opportunity.

Merryn is till undergoing treatment and her mum and dad, Jenny and Michael, hope she will be in remission by Christmas.

They still have a long battle ahead but are determined to do everything they can for Merryn.

Even if Merryn goes into remission there is still a 70 per cent chance of the cancer returning and to stop this happening they want to send her for specialist trials in the United States.
