Union flags removed in Maghera

A DUP councillor has hit out at the removal of Union flags in Maghera.

Councillor Anne Forde described the incident, which happened on Sunday night, as “disappointing.”

“This is concerning for all who have worked tiredlessely to ensure that we can celebrate our culture in a respectful manner,” she told the MAIL.

She urged anyone who has information to contact the PSNI to ensure that the flags are handed back to those who own them.

Councillor Forde also expressed concern about increase in anti-social behaviour in the Bank Square area of the town.

“I ask parents to be aware of the whereabouts of their young people during the summer months to ensure that this kind of behaviour is not allowed to escalate,” she said.

Continuing, she commended Maghera Sons of William Flute Band for all their hard work in organising their annual band parade in the town last Friday evening.

“It was a great family event where entertainment was provided for all ages,” she said. “Great to see such a good number of Bands attending and thanks to all who made the evening such a success.”
