Wi-Fi initiative ‘ignores Ballymena’ - Allister

Ballymena is being ‘left behind’ in the digital age, TUV assemblyman Jim Allister has claimed.

Mr. Allister said he had been ‘surprised’ to learn that no town in North Antrim has been included in an initiative which would have provided free Wi-Fi within town centre locations.

“Wi-Fi access within town centres such as Ballymena or Ballymoney would add an extra incentive to shoppers while they go about their business. In the current economic climate and due to the threat to town centres by out of town shopping, every effort should be made to make towns more attractive to the consumer.

“I would call on the Minister for Social Development and the local councils to look at this afresh,” he said.
