Young people needed for narcotics awareness group

TIPSA or Teenagers Involved in Protecting Selves around Alcohol aim to provide alcohol and drugs awareness information to teenagers and their parents within the Cookstown and Magherafelt districts.

The project is looking for young people under 25 in the Mid-Ulster area with a wide range of perspectives to sign up to their youth panel. The panel will meet informally usually every two months to discuss the work of TIPSA, the materials and programmes it produces and to ensure the young people can get the service they deserve.

They are hoping that a broad selection of young people will take part, from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

TIPSA project co-ordinator Martin McCann said: “This will be a great chance for anyone, no matter their history, to help shape drugs and alcohol work in their area and we encourage anyone with an interest to get involved.”

It is envisaged that as well as meeting with the workers, a range of activities may be laid on for those who get involved with the panel. Each meeting will be held in a comfortable local venue, with refreshments provided and an atmosphere of honesty.

“We feel every opinion is valid and we know young people hate being treated as a crowd who all think and act the same. All contributions will be welcomed. This will also allow young people to show their individuality and enjoy mature discussions on issues relevant to them and their peers,” Martin said.
