Zero foreign investment jobs in Limavady

None of the 4,760 jobs promoted by foreign investors in Northern Ireland during the past year were in Limavady, it has emerged.

The regional breakdown of the 4,760 reveals that the vast majority of those jobs were promoted in Belfast.

The figure of zero for Limavady compares to figures of 241 for Antrim, 100 for Carrickfergus, 25 for Craigavon, 510 for Londonderry, 102 for Larne or 64 for Strabane.

The figures emerged this week after Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster was asked by Sinn Féin MLA Phil Flanagan: “Of the 4,760 Foreign Direct Investment jobs promoted by InvestNI in 2013/14, to detail the number of these promoted in each of the 26 district council areas.”

Ms Foster’s figures showed that there were no jobs promoted by externally-owned companies in Limavady during the financial year 2013/14.

The Enterprise Minister also revealed that there were 53 jobs promoted by Invest NI during the past financial year (2013/14) which were not business start ups.

This figure is also amongst the lowest in Northern Ireland. Just four of the 26 district council areas in Northern Ireland had lower totals than Limavady.

They were Moyle, where 32 non-business-start-up jobs were promoted by Invest NI, Larne where the figure was four, Carrickfergus where it was 26 and Banbridge where the figure was 22.

Those figures were also revealed by Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster this week in response to a written Assembly question by Sinn Féin MLA Phil Flanagan.

Mr Flanagan asked the Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Investment: “of the local jobs promoted by Invest NI in 2013/14, which were not business startups, to detail the number of jobs promoted in each of the 26 district council areas.”
