All to play for in the championships

Considering Crossmaglen’s continued domination of the senior series, the intermediate section is making all the headlines.

Lurgan-based Clann Eireann, St Paul’s, Clan na Gael and Sarsfields are all still involved and the quarter-finals of both competitions will take place over the next two weekends.

On Sunday, Sarsfields will play Granemore, who were beaten by a strong Armagh Harps outfit last weekend.

For the mid-Armagh team, Kieran Toner will line out at midfield alongside former County player Tony McClelland - up front Granemore will be relying on Chrissy O’Connor and Ryan Rafferty to do most of the scoring.

Although the Trasna men were well beaten by Crossmaglen first time out, they bounced back with a convincing win over Tir na nOg to book a place in Sunday’s quarter-final.

Clan na Gael, who accounted for Lurgan rivals St Peter’s at the weekend, have been handed a tough game against a vastly-improved Forkhill outfit.

With a place in the semi-finals at stake, the Blues will take great confidence from the fact that they beat St Peter’s last weekend without the services of Stefan Campbell and Ronan Austin.

St Paul’s booked their spot in the last four with a narrow one-point win over Middletown.

St Mary’s Aghagallon play Portglenone tonight (Thursday) at Aghogill from 8.15 for a place in the Antrim Championship final.

St Mary’s have recently staged a series of intensive training sessions in preparation for the test against a Portglenone side considered favourites.
