Assured win for Ladies in Dromara

Dromara Village Ladies 1-7 Banbridge Rangers Ladies

BANBRIDGE Rangers Ladies recorded their second win of the league campaign last Monday night when they defeated Dromara Village 7-1 in the Euro Electrix NIWFA Division 4.

After a nervy opening 10 minutes both teams gradually became accustomed to the slow pitch with the deadlock being broken on 12 minutes through Donna Donnell who raced picked up a rebounded shot and finished from inside the area.

It took until the half hour mark for Rangers to double their lead which came through Lauren Thompson who was as tenacious as ever in chasing the ball and managed to latch onto the ball and curl round the keeper.

The two strikers combined again just before the half time interval with Donnell racing onto a Thompson through ball and slotting coolly to give Banbridge Rangers a comfortable and deserved lead at half time. Donna Donnell was caught by the keeper’s arm in the aftermath of the shot and carried on but an xray the following morning confirmed a hairline fracture in the throat.

In the second half some good work in midfield sent Lauren Thompson in behind the Dromara backline and she lifted the ball over the keeper to make it 4-0 to Rangers and put the game out of sight. The fifth goal for Rangers arrived just after the hour mark with midfielder Robinson volleying in a keeper’s kick out from just inside the Dromara half.

In the closing 10 minutes Banbridge Rangers recorded twice with Donna Donnell clinching her hattrick and Gemma Thompson grabbing her first goal of the season. These goals sandwiched a late consolation goal from Dromara Village striker Elena Dascalu.

This was a good win for the Gers Ladies who looked assured in possession from the first whistle and put some previous disappointing results on their travels to bed.
