Stuart was also part of the gold medal winning team when BCC Biesty’s Centra RT saw off top Belfast’s major cycling club Phoenix CC relegating them into an unusual position of second. This winning team was made up of Stuart Laverty, first full season sensation Mervyn Linton and former BCC rider and top Irish road cyclist Bryan McKinney who recently returned to the winning BCC team adding more and more depth and a wealth of experience to the young riders as they get ready to raise the Ballymoney outfit’s profile yet higher in national and international cycling.
* On a new course chosen by Island wheelers, promoter James McLaughlin the rolling A4 from Dungannnon to Ballygawley was trotted out for its first time. This being typical of BCC’s Bryan McKinney and his search for perfection, Bryan and RAS team manager Eddie McKinney in the team car did a recce run midweek so that he could advise his team mates on gears and choice of wheels for the crucial event.
Stuart Laverty and young Dominican college student Ronan Sherman owe a lot to Bryan’s help in their medal winning achievements with the loan of a TT bike for Ronan helping him in his first year racing to a bronze championship medal.
* Every week the Club and Youth development team of Joan Trengove and Rhona Laverty take groups of young riders on adventure cycles, getting the young ones used to group riding and awareness on today’s busy roads.
