Of Ballymena’s other competitors, boxer Steven Donnelly was in action last night (Monday) as Times Sport went to press in his welterweight last 16 contest against Tonga’s.

Donnelly has already produced one of the most talked-about moments of the Games so far with his incredible stoppage of Pakistani opponent Hasan Asif inside 37 seconds of his opening round contest.

Steven said: “I trained tremendously hard for this and as you saw in the first round it all paid off.

“But I’m not going to get carried away, it’s only the first round and I have a hard second round ahead.”
