Four years ago, in Delhi, the Monkstown fighter claimed a silver medal, losing out to England’s Simon Vallily in the final.

This time around he hopes to go all the way and take home the top prize.

“It’s good to have another crack and try and go one better and try and get a gold, but I’ll be happy just to go over and just enjoy it,” he told the Times.

“But I wouldn’t be going to the competition if I wasn’t going for gold, to be honest.

“I don’t really see the point of going over just to make up numbers.

“Obviously, last time I got pipped at the post and got the silver. At the time I wasn’t too happy about it, but as it sank in a couple of days later I was happy with it.

“I’m more interested in going over and performing to my best. I know if I perform to my best, I’ll walk away with gold.”
