They defeated Derriaghy by 11 runs to claim the title.

The players went into Thursday night’s date with destiny with the weight of history on their shoulders.

Not only had the club’s first-team never won a Northern Cricket Union Cup, the last time they were in contention in a final was back in 1967.

On that occasion they lost to Ards in the Intermediate Cup final.

But Iain Parkhill’s side made a little bit of history of their own at Middle Road and it was a case of joy unbridled when they knew the silverware was theirs.

Parkhill (right) won the toss and chose to bat first. His decision paid off when Michael Gilmour rattled out 45 runs as the Middle Road men posted 138 for 6.

Derriaghy’s response was 127 for 5 with Man of the Match Indrajeet Kamtekar the best of the Carrick bowlers, taking 2/23.

Carrick will be hoping to repeat their T20 success after they booked a spot in the Ulster Shield final at the weekend.
