Excellent performance seals super away win

Lurgan B recovered from their recent defeat at Portadown to comprehensively beat top of the league team, Holywood who had not been beaten on their home green for two and a half years. The Lurgan team were never behind at any stage and constantly increased the shot difference to eventually win 86–69.

On Rink 1 Neil Sloan, Jeffrey McCullough, Declan McCullough and Sam Neill, skip, were 9–4 ahead after the ninth end. An excellent six-shot win at the eleventh end increased the visitors lead to 15–7. Good tight bowling by Neill’s men restricted the home rink to mostly single shots for them to win 20–18.

Rodney McCarthy, Wilfie McCullough, Derek Henderson and Eamonn Quinn, skip on Rink 2 were marginally behind at 6–4 after the sixth end but they soon mastered the green to lead 9–8 at the midpoint. Then they collected a valuable five shots at the fourteenth end to increase their advantage and a determined finish produced a win by 22–18.

Vincent Devlin, Brian Brown, Dan Dempsey and Bobby Jones, skip lost 22-15, but Gordon Bell, skip, ably assisted by Gerry Stewart, Bobby Livingstone and Roy Poots stormed to a 29–11 win which contributed to the excellent away win that shoots them up to third place in their league.
