Exciting round from Robert

There were one hundred and forty five cards taken out and at the conclusion of play some sixteen golfers had posted under par returns. Thus around eleven per cent of the field played below their handicap.

Five handicapper Robert Emerson shot an exciting 44 points on the day and he duly captured the trophy on offer. His well conceived round comprised birdies on holes one, four, seven, ten, fourteen and sixteen. However bogeys on holes two, three and thirteen took care of three of the birdies. Pars figures on the rest of the holes enabled him to shoot an exciting gross 67 in the heat of battle. Such was the quality of his play that he had four points to spare over his closest challenger.

In second spot was Andrew Cummins with a spirited effort of 40 points. This six handicapper had a variety of scores on the opening nine ranging from a double bogey on the third to a birdie on the eighth. Single bogeys on holes six and nine accompanied five pars. A pair of pars got his back nine underway. Thence followed a run of birdie, bogey, birdie. After that it was pars all the way home.

The third net award went to Tom Woods. This eight handicapper clinched the honours with the best return of 39 points. Eight pars and a bogey at the seventh set him up on the outward nine. On the way back to the clubhouse birdies at holes twelve and fifteen were combined with pars on holes sixteen and eighteen. Whilst he dropped six strokes on the rest of the holes he held on to claim third place.

Patrick Currie was fourth with a similar haul of 39 points. This eleven handicapper was consistent over both nines with a good run of scores. Birdies on holes two and four were more than useful. Pars at holes one, seven and eight also helped his score along. A quartet of pars at holes ten, twelve, seventeen and eighteen were useful assets on the inward nine.

The fifth and last net prize on offer went to the regular midweek player Jim McKee. Playing of a seven handicap Jim took the spoils with a total of 38 points. Jim birdied holes one and four and this provided an early fillip. Pars at holes two, five and nine helped the points tally mounting. His homeward nine comprised six pars to go alongside bogeys on holes thirteen, fourteen and sixteen. A good score over the last six holes propelled Jim into the final net prize.

Four handicapper Tom Douglas grabbed the gross with 35 points. Tom was prominent with birdies on holes five, nine, fifteen and eighteen. Alas bogeys on holes one, two, twelve, thirteen and sixteen negated the birdie gains. Pars on the rest of the holes put him over the line.
