Fit N Running trio prepare for road race campaign

Fit N Running had a trio of athletes in action in wintry conditions at the weekend.

The runners involved were beginning preparations for the forthcoming road race season.

Promising and ever improving duo Colin Apperley and Vernon Shiels travelled to Cultra on Sunday to compete in the 10k event staged over a demanding course.

The popular event attracted an impressive turnout of 290 runners.

Shiels and Apparley were prominent throughout with Vernon winning his age category and finishing 4th male overall in a time of 41mins 44secs.

Colin also finished well up the field in 14th place in 43mins 17secs. Overall winner was David Simpson in a time of 39mins 2 secs.

RAHENEY 5 MILE ROAD RACE

Mark McKinstry, who is in superb form in off road events made the journey to Dublin on Sunday to compete in the Raheney 5 mile road race.

Currently in a heavy pre-competition training block, he recorded a fine time of 25mins 56 secs which saw him finish 11th from a field laced with quality.

Fit N Running cater for runners at all levels of the sport, from beginners to those competing at an advanced level of running ability.

weekly sessions and times are as follows:

Monday 615pm Recreational Run

Tuesday 615pm Beginners 8 week running course.

Wednesday 615pm Conditioning Circuit class.

Thursday 430pm Elite Development squad training.

Thirsday 630pm Flexibility Class

There is also an adfitional session on Saturday morning for the advanced group.

All these sessions are from the Michelin Athletic Club on the Woodside Road in Ballymena.
