Aghalee keep their promotion hopes alive with fine win over Armagh

Aghalee Village kept their chances of promotion alive with a 4 -0 win against Armagh Blues last Saturday in the Mid Ulster league.

Barry Doherty opened the scoring for Aghalee after 10 minutes when he headed home an Anto Diamond cross.

Minutes later Micky Tohill hit the crossbar and Paddy Reddick shot just wide.

Armagh held on until 33rd minute when Aghalee were awarded a free kick just outside the box and Peter O’Neill crossed over for Anto Diamond to hammer home.

Then just before half time Paddy Reilly went on a great run beating several Armagh defenders before passing to Conor Gaskin who scored to give his team a 3 -0 half time lead.

At the start of the second half Armagh put Aghalee under pressure but some great defending from Brian McKenna and Peter O’Neill kept Armagh from scoring.

Aghalee’s keeper Gerard Hartley also played an important role with a solid performance.

Midway through the second half Aghalee gained control of the game again especially through midfield with Paul Lenaghan creating chances.

The pressure began to pay and with 10 minutes remaining Paddy Reddick lobbed the ball over the Armagh defence and Micky Tohill drove the ball home to give his team a 4 – 0 lead.

This Saturday Aghalee are at home to Hillsborough Boys. All supporters welcome.
