Boss wants Carrick to bounce back

CARRICK boss Stephen Small is hoping his side can bounce back from last week’s 4-0 drubbing against Coleraine by causing an upset at The Oval.

Rangers face a tough test at Glentoran in the Carling Premiership this weekend and the men in Amber and Black will be out to banish the memories of the recent County Antrim Shield encounter when a youthful Glens outfit showed great potential in a comfortable 5-2 win.

Carrick, of course, will be hoping for a happier visit to east Belfast on Saturday afternoon but while boss Small is under no illusions of the difficulty of the task ahead he knows a positive result could help his side climb the table.

Speaking to the Carrick Times this week he said: “If we were to get a win on Saturday suddenly we could be bouncing above a few teams. That’s how it is in the Premiership and we must make sure that we bank some points to keep the pressure at bay.

“Going to The Oval is not the sort of assignment where you can expect to get points – and they are smarting from a turn-over (against Portadown) last Saturday. But, we must get out there and work our socks off. And if we do that we might just cause an upset.”
