Feeney fires home second-half double as Saints seal success

The 3-1 victory arrived despite a positive start by Rangers - with Sean Brady’s goal handing the Saints a welcome half-time advantage.

St Mary’s enjoyed regular joy at exposing the high defensive line deployed by Rangers but Feeney finished frustrated on a number of occasions from promising positions.

Rangers got back on level terms entering the closing 15 minutes but St Mary’s produced a late surge to reclaim control.

Feeney discovered his finishing touch to convert a strong run by substitute Brendan Hagan.

The striker followed up that close-range strike with a volley from distance to cement St Mary’s control.

The match marked a debut for Ciaran Rooney following the midfielder’s switch from Dollingstown. Rooney, who started out on the books at Portadown, also counts Lurgan Celtic as a former club.
