Hamilton’s delight at back-to-back wins

“It’s nice to be talking about two wins on the bounce at home. We’re now building for Saturday to get up to nine points.

“There were a number of players who stood out for me - Rhys Marshall, Andy Kilmartin, Kevin Braniff and Alan Blayney had big games.

“Eoin Bradley caused them all sorts of problems and Ciaran Martyn kept getting into the box.

“As a team it’s the best performance we’ve had. Our special players won us the game.

“It’s been the case for the last three performance. Our special players have made the difference - Ciaran against Cliftonville, Alan against Ballymena and Kevin last night.

“It was good for Kevin to get on the score sheet.

“If we’ve injuries Kevin can fill in out wide, but first and foremost he’s a striker and I want to have him up top. Sometimes he’ll drop deep to pick up the ball. He can also influence the game from there. That’s another of his strengths.

“With Guy Bates away we’re very short in the striker department.

“There’s Kevin and Eoin and I can help out myself, but gone are the days when I could play 90 minutes for five or six games in a row.

“What I don’t want is complacency. Competition for places is the most important thing at a football club. You get the most out of players when they know their place isn’t guaranteed.

“That’s why we’ve brought in Darren Forsyth. He’s pacy. He’s 6’ 2”. There’s a big presence about him. He’s someone who can play out wide as well as up front.

“He’s a player with League of Ireland pedigree. He’s started the season well with Greystones.

“He’s a risk because we didn’t get a chance to properly see him the way things happened with Guy leaving. But he’s come highly recommended by Tony Grant.

“The players he’s recommended have worked out well so far. Tony is someone who we can trust.

“This season I’m trying to stick with a 4-4-2 as much as possible. Last season there were maybe games when we played a 4-5-1 against some of the bigger teams but I think this season we’ve got a stronger squad of players which means we don’t have to change the way we play.”
