Kris is man of the match

The former Linfield man was first to almost every ball played towards the Glenavon defence and rarely looked like being beaten.

He has also added some much needed leadership to the Blues’ back line. Organisation has long been missing from what has, in previous seasons, been a young defence. In Brendan Shannon and Eddie McCallion’s absence, Lindsay took the captain’s armband and did a superb job of arranging his side.

Glenavon boss Gary Hamilton was also impressed with Lindsay’s display and tipped him to be the best defender in the league once he gets a prolonged run in the team.

He said: “Kris was superb. He’s getting stronger and stronger with every game and, as I’ve said since he arrived, he’ll be a big player for us if he stays fit.

“He has a lot of experience, a lot of ability and he’s a winner. He has all of that in abundance and I feel that, when he gets a good run of games, he’ll be one of, if not the best defender in the league.

“Whenever we were at different clubs, there was nobody I hated playing against more than Kris Lindsay.”

It was a day in which all of Glenavon’s starting 11 impressed. Guy Bates and Gary Hamilton himself put in a lot of hard work and caused a lot of problems for DC’s defence. Andy McGrory also performed well and really looks to have kicked on following his late wonder goal against Crusaders.

Ciaran Martyn has also added a whole new dimension to Glenavon’s midfield, helping to make the Blues more competitive in the central area. A special mention must go to Brendan Bennett too, as he took his first senior goal very well.
