Luck still evading Wakehurst, says Muir

Saturday’s 2-1 defeat by Dollingstown saw Wakehurst drop to the bottom of the NIFL Championship Two table for the first time this season after their sixth defeat in nine games.

Wakehurst went into the game without the services of their two recognised strikers, who have both suffered knee injuries in recent weeks.

On the plus side, however, Ryan Young returned from injury, Corey Price made his first start in league and Jordan Lemon also played, having returned from a spell in America.

With club captain George Young also continuing to gain match fitness in the reserves following his knee operation, boss Muir is hoping to have added competition for places in the coming week.

“We had the better of the first half with some of the best football we have played since pre season,” said Muir.

“We deservedly went one nil up through a goal by Andy Laughlin after some excellent build up play.”

Dollingstown were awarded a penalty which was put away convincingly by their number nine.

The visitors took the lead with a header at the back post after what Muir felt was a poor decision by the referee to award a drop ball after a Wakehurst player went down with a head injury.

Wakehurst continued to push for equaliser and Jordan Walker broke from Sweeper to see his 35yard effort smash off inside of post and hit the keeper on the back before somehow finding its way into his hands.

“When your luck’s not in its not in!” groaned Muir.

“But our erformances have improved last three weeks and if give the same effort and commitment as Saturday we will start winning games,” the manager added.

Wakehurst face Championship One Institute in the semi-final of the Craig Memorial North West Cup this Saturday.
